2025 Spring Release

Spring 2025 Release

The hot and dry 2022 season intensified flavors. Result? Rich concentrations and stunning balance.

Each vintage honors our pristine mountain land and strives to uncover new expressions of our rugged high-altitude terroir.

The Journey Of Creation Image

2022 Vintage

The Journey of Creation

Defined by precision and timing. Harvest began early on August 15, with a staggered approach throughout the month to ensure optimal ripeness. A Labor Day heatwave accelerated ripening, but early picks preserved the vineyard’s freshness and balance.

This vintage reflects our philosophy—embracing nature’s challenges to craft expressive, enduring wines.

Harvest of Resilience

The 2022 harvest captured the story of a season shaped by nature’s extremes.

A cooler spring gave way to rapid summer ripening, culminating in a Labor Day heatwave that pushed the vineyard to its limits. 2022 wines are bigger and bolder, while still offering exceptional freshness, density and complexity.

“It's firmly built, featuring mountaintop-influenced tannins that will last for years. It's the inaugural vintage of one of the more interesting estates to come to California in years.”

Vinous

The 2022 Syrah pours a vibrant, electric purple in the glass. Fleshy, resonant and loaded with character, the 2022 delivers a wealth of complex berry fruit, mineral depth and exotic spice richness. Boasting a flush of balanced acidity and racy, engaging textures, this is such an impressive wine. I'm taken aback by how much this already feels like it has its own voice. The future is very bright at Ojai Mountain.”

Hailing from a high-elevation, super-exposed mountaintop overlooking all of Ventura County, this bottling is snappy on the nose with black raspberry and lilac aromas that are layered in fennel pollen, thyme and lightly toasted oak. Blueberry and purple fruits pop on the palate, where sticky tannins indicate reliable cellar life”

94 Editors' Choice

Made from 100% Syrah, destemmed and aged 20 months in neutral French oak, the 2022 Syrah Ojai Mountain is inky purple-hued and has a powerful nose of jammy blueberries, plums, intermixed with pepper, smoked meat, and violets. It has beautiful purity, medium to full body, ripe, building tannins, and outstanding length. This brings serious ripeness in its aromatics but stays balanced and lively on the palate. Drink bottles over the coming 7-8 years. Drink 2025-2033.”

Decanter

This Syrah is powerful, muscular, and deeply expressive from a micro-producer in Ojai with estate vineyards at 850m in elevation. Inky purple in the glass offers a core of dark fruits—purple, blue, and black—layered with cracked pepper and allspice. The palate is bold, featuring notes of dark fruit, coffee beans, and leather. Aged in 100% neutral oak, this wine will benefit from a year or more of cellaring.”

Wine Advocate

I found the 2022 Syrah one of the more promising Ojai Mountain releases, with notably more depth and dimension than the Estate Red bottling. It opens with a dark, brooding nose that combines camphor, white pepper and dried herb aromas, leading to a plush and concentrated palate with tensile energy and a powdery finish supported by lush dark fruits.”

Winemaking Philosophy

We farm biodynamically at high elevation and intervene minimally in the cellar. The goal isn't to make wine—it's to let the vineyard speak for itself.

Learn About Winemaking Approach

Key Principles

  • Vineyard health and timing over cellar correction
  • Native fermentation with close monitoring
  • Minimal additives (sulfur only, used sparingly)
  • Vintage variation as a feature, not a flaw
  • Wines built for the table with food compatibility

Winemaking Process

Our process emphasizes native yeast fermentation, minimal additives, and selective use of neutral French oak. We monitor closely but intervene sparingly, allowing vintage character and site expression to shine through. The result is transparent, food-friendly wines with natural acidity and layered complexity.

PAIRING

Braised short ribs with rosemary; grilled venison with black pepper; charred eggplant with smoked paprika; dark chocolate tart with sea salt.

The 2022's full body and dense dark fruit need richness to meet them — braised collagen, blackened spice, bitter chocolate. The wine's amplitude holds its shape against bold preparations while mountain acidity keeps everything from going heavy.

The Heart of the process image

The Heart of the Process

“Winemaking is not a recipe—it’s about interaction, observation, and responding to the moment. Every day, we’re monitoring the progress of fermentation and adapting to what the wine is telling us.”

2022 Estate Red

Pomegranate|White Pepper|Taut

A GSM blend with Tempranillo — our most taut and savory Estate Red to date. Boysenberry, pomegranate, white pepper, and crushed stone on a broad, structured palate. Vinous 94 Points. Structured and drinking well now, with years ahead.

VARIETALS

45% Grenache, 44% Mourvedre, 5% Syrah, 6% Tempranillo

Vinous

Eschewing Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in favor of more Mourvèdre and a dollop of Tempranillo from embryonic vines, the 2022 Red Blend is a much richer, spicier wine off this fledgling site. It's taut and structured, a baby by all measures, but undoubtedly a bellwether of very exciting things to come. Pomegranate, blood orange, lavender, crushed rocks and iodine lead to a ferrous, floral finish. On the lighter side of medium in body, the structure here is certainly not shy. I cannot wait to taste this in future vintages. ”

There's a lovely combination of berry sorbet, lilac and peppercorn on the nose of this bottling from a mountaintop vineyard high above Ojai. The palate is zesty with boysenberry candy and strawberry flavors that are cut by a crushed stone earthiness.”

Matt Kettmann

Decanter

This predominantly Grenache and Mourvèdre blend, with a touch of Tempranillo and Syrah, is a fresh and approachable daily drinker. The nose offers dark fruits and warm baking spices, while the palate is easy-drinking and balanced with well-integrated tannins—a versatile choice for any occasion. ”

PAIRING

Herb-roasted lamb shoulder; grilled duck breast with citrus and spice; mushroom risotto with thyme; aged Manchego with crusty bread.

The 2022's pomegranate-driven fruit and spice character — darker, more structured than the 2021 — suits bold preparations with Mediterranean herbs. Taut tannins and bright acidity keep rich lamb or duck from becoming heavy.
