2022 Vintage

The Journey of Creation

Defined by precision and timing. Harvest began early on August 15, with a staggered approach throughout the month to ensure optimal ripeness. A Labor Day heatwave accelerated ripening, but early picks preserved the vineyard’s freshness and balance.

This vintage reflects our philosophy—embracing nature’s challenges to craft expressive, enduring wines.

Harvest of Resilience

The 2022 harvest captured the story of a season shaped by nature’s extremes.

A cooler spring gave way to rapid summer ripening, culminating in a Labor Day heatwave that pushed the vineyard to its limits. 2022 wines are bigger and bolder, while still offering exceptional freshness, density and complexity.

The Heart of the Process

“Winemaking is not a recipe—it’s about interaction, observation, and responding to the moment. Every day, we’re monitoring the progress of fermentation and adapting to what the wine is telling us.”

Your Questions, Answered

From vineyard visits to our winemaking philosophy—find answers to the most common questions about Ojai Mountain.

The Spring 2025 release includes two estate-grown wines from Ojai Mountain: the 2022 Syrah and the 2022 Estate Red. Both wines come from the hot, dry 2022 vintage, a season that produced rich concentration, bold structure, and strong natural balance.

The 2022 Syrah is one of Ojai Mountain’s most acclaimed wines to date. Vinous awarded it 96 points, calling it “fleshy, resonant and loaded with character” and noting that it already feels like it has its own voice. Wine Enthusiast also awarded it 94 points and named it an Editors’ Choice, highlighting its reliable cellar life.

The 2022 Estate Red is taut, savory, and structured, with notes of boysenberry, pomegranate, blood orange, white pepper, crushed stone, lilac, and warm spice. Built around Grenache and Mourvèdre with Syrah and Tempranillo, it is broader and more Rhône-driven than earlier vintages while still carrying Ojai Mountain’s mountain freshness.

Both wines are built to age. The 2022 Syrah can be enjoyed now and cellared through 2040, with firm tannins, dark fruit, and mountain acidity supporting long-term development. The 2022 Estate Red is also drinking well now and has the structure to evolve through 2040.

The 2022 Syrah pairs best with bold, rich dishes that can match its dark fruit, full body, and firm tannins. Try it with braised short ribs, grilled venison with black pepper, charred eggplant with smoked paprika, or dark chocolate tart with sea salt.

The 2022 Estate Red pairs well with savory, herb-driven dishes that complement its pomegranate fruit, spice, and taut structure. Serve it with herb-roasted lamb shoulder, grilled duck breast with citrus and spice, mushroom risotto with thyme, or aged Manchego with crusty bread.
