Mountaintop Wine Tasting in Ojai

A private, sommelier-guided tasting on a biodynamic mountain estate — with sweeping views across Ventura County to the Channel Islands. By appointment only. Limited daily guests.

Ojai’s Only
Estate Winery

Every bottle poured here starts steps from where you're standing. Ojai Mountain is the only winery in Ojai growing and producing wine from 100% estate-grown grapes. While other Ojai winemakers source from the broader Santa Barbara and Central Coast region, our wines are grown and harvested entirely on this mountain.

Cool nights, ocean influence, and elevation shape every vintage in ways no other Ojai wine can claim. If you want to know what Ojai actually tastes like — this is the only place to find out.

“The joy of travel is discovery and what better way to know a region than through its wines shaped by its terroir?”

Visit Our High-Altitude Coastal Estate

Most California wine tastings happen in a valley. This one happens above it.

The Setting

Ojai Mountain is California's southernmost mountaintop cool-climate estate — growing, harvesting, and crafting every bottle from grapes grown at 2,800 feet on a remote ridge of Upper Ojai. No neighboring wineries, no tasting room signs, no foot traffic. Just ocean winds, Rhône varieties shaped by the ridge, and views that stretch to the Channel Islands.

The Experience

Sommelier-guided, every tasting is prepared specifically for your visit. You'll walk the vineyard, taste estate wines with cheese and charcuterie, and understand exactly how elevation shapes what's in your glass.

The Drive

Thirty to forty minutes from downtown Ojai on a winding mountain road with sustained elevation gain. The valley shrinks below you, the switchbacks open into ridge views, and by the time you arrive, you're somewhere else entirely. That transition is part of what the visit is.

The mountain road is part of the experience — and this version lets you enjoy it without driving it. Cloud Climbers picks you up anywhere in Ojai in an open-air vintage Jeep, handles the climb, and delivers you to the ridge ready to taste. The sommelier-led tasting follows the same format as our private experience, with the journey built in.

Before You Go

What to bring

Sun protection, a light layer, and closed-toe shoes. The estate runs 10 to 15 degrees cooler than downtown Ojai, with strong ridge winds year-round. The vineyard walk is on uneven ground.

Getting here

We are in Upper Ojai, 30 to 40 minutes from downtown on a winding mountain road. The drive is paved until the last quarter mile, which is well-maintained dirt and fine for a standard car in dry weather.

Prefer not to drive?

We also offer Jeep transport experiences through Cloud Climbers.

Private Celebrations on the Mountain

A Tasting for Every Occasion

A proposal timed to sunset. A corporate retreat above the valley. A bachelorette on the ridge. A milestone birthday with the Channel Islands in view. Whatever brings your group to the mountain, the experience is the same: a sommelier-led tasting of estate-grown Rhône wines at 2,800 feet, reserved entirely for your party. The occasion shapes the timing. The wine shapes the memory.

“Incredible experience. Maybe the most scenic wine tasting on the planet. And the wine was delicious.”

Stay on the Estate

Extend the Experience

Most guests leave after a few hours. Some decide they're not ready to go back down. The Ridge villa sits at the summit—four bedrooms, ocean views, and the vineyard at your doorstep. Wake up here, and the mountain is yours before anyone else arrives.

Wake Up in the Vineyard

The only place to stay in the mountains with the view of the Pacific and direct vineyard access. Pour estate wines from your own terrace. Watch the sun drop into the Pacific from a hot tub with nothing between you and the Channel Islands.

Your Questions, Answered

From vineyard visits to our winemaking philosophy—find answers to the most common questions about Ojai Mountain.

Yes — all tastings are by appointment only. The estate is private property at 2,800 feet in Upper Ojai, and every visit is prepared individually. We don't accept walk-ins. Online booking is available anytime and requires 48 hours' notice. If you're hoping to visit sooner, email or text us and we'll do our best to accommodate. → Book a visit

Ojai Mountain is a working private estate on a remote mountaintop, not a public tasting room. There is no permanent staff on-site waiting for drop-ins. Every visit is personally hosted by a sommelier who travels up the mountain specifically for your group. We prepare the experience before you arrive and close everything down after you leave. That preparation is what makes the visit feel the way it does. When you get here, everything is ready and the focus is entirely on you. Advance booking gives us the lead time to do that well. It is a different model than a walk-in tasting room, and intentionally so. It is not a members-only club. There is no list to get on, no connection required. If you can find a time that works and book it, the mountain is yours.

Yes — the minimum is 2 guests. Tastings involve a sommelier traveling to the mountain and wines being opened specifically for your visit, so we're not able to accommodate a single guest. If you're visiting solo, reach out at info@ojaimountainestate.com and we'll see what we can arrange. → Book a visit

The minimum reservation is two guests. Each visit includes a flight of estate wines, a cheese and charcuterie board, and time to walk the vineyard and ask questions about how it's farmed. Because these are private tastings at a working vineyard at 2,800 feet, and a sommelier travels up to the mountain for each one, we're not able to host solo guests. Solo visitors are welcome to join a Shared Tasting — see options above.

Yes — the Shared Tasting is designed for exactly this. It's a sommelier-led mountaintop experience with the same format as a private visit: vineyard views, a flight of estate wines, cheese and charcuterie, no time pressure. The difference is that you're seated alongside a small group of fellow guests, up to 20 in total. If you enjoy the kind of conversation that happens naturally when people who care about wine end up in the same place, this format tends to produce it.

If a Shared Tasting doesn't reach the minimum of 4 guests to run, we'll notify you in advance and issue a full refund. Because the format depends on a small group being present, we're not able to run it for fewer than 4 bookings. If that happens, you're welcome to rebook as a Private Tasting ($125/guest, minimum 2) or reach out at info@ojaimountainestate.com or 805.214.4339 — we'll do our best to find a time that works. → Book a visit

We host tastings between 11 am and 5 pm, with most visits beginning at 11 am, 2 pm, or 4:45 pm (the sunset slot, available mid-March through September). Each has its own character: 11 am is cooler and quieter with the vineyard at its freshest; 2 pm gives warm afternoon light across the valley; and 4:45 pm ends with the Ojai sunset — the orange flare over the Pacific followed by the Pink Moment over the Topa Topas. If none of the listed times work, email or text us at info@ojaimountainestate.com or 805.214.4339 and we'll do our best to accommodate.

No. Ojai Mountain is a working vineyard and winery, not an event venue. Our focus is wine. We offer private wine tasting experiences centered around our estate-grown wines, vineyard, farming practices, and winemaking philosophy. While many guests choose to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, bachelorette weekends, and other special occasions during their tasting, the tasting itself remains the purpose of the visit.

We do not rent the property as a venue, provide event coordination, catering, decorations, entertainment, or other venue services. Guests are welcome to enjoy a special occasion as part of their wine tasting experience, but Ojai Mountain is not available for standalone event rentals.
